Germany's labor market relies heavily on immigrants, with over 700,000 jobs remaining unfilled despite an influx of workers from outside the European Union. For instance, from June 2022 to June 2023, 53,000 Ukrainians and 24,000 Indians joined the German workforce, a trend expected to persist due to demographic factors and the retirement of baby boomers. In Berlin and Brandenburg, the paradox of rising unemployment (January 2024 9.7% in Berlin and 6.4% in Brandenburg) alongside a high demand for skilled workers (25,000 vacancies in Brandenburg, 20,000 in Berlin) persists, emphasizing the region's dependence on immigration to meet labor market needs.
Considering the current state of the job market, applicants regardless of their background are once again challenged to realign their job-hunt strategy and activities in order to eventually be successful.

After her time as a counselor at JOB POINT Berlin, she recently moved to the affiliated project MobiJob, where she now supports refugees to participate in Berlin society on an equal footing by taking up employment.
Tobias Schmidtner with a background in economic anthropology and over 12 years in organizational development and HR, assists jobseekers from diverse backgrounds in launching their careers in Berlin since 2016. He offers valuable insights gained from thousands of consultations at Berlin's Welcome Centre and JOB POINT Berlin.
